Carol Service at Condé-sur-Noireau

Condé TempleWe will be holding our annual bilingual Carol Service at le Temple, Condé, home of the French Reformed Church congregation, on Sunday, December 14th beginning at 5pm.

Advertising has been extensively distributed around the area, and a notice has been printed in The Rendezvous, which is the English-language monthly journal for this part of Normandy. The local weekly newspaper, the Orne Combattante, should be publishing details of the event in the edition that comes out this Thursday.

The carol service will consist mostly of traditional English Christmas Carols and Bible Readings. The printed program will include the text of all the Bible readings in English together with a translation into French to encourage everybody to follow them. There will also be a small choir - which includes French singers too, and a small group of musicians to accompany the singing.

The theme of this years event is Joy - Joy to the World (Joie pour le monde), and we will be kicking off the service with an arrangement of Isaac Watts' great congregational hymn “Joy to the World, the Lord has come!” The short talk towards the end of the service will be on the theme of Joy, contrasting the saying “Eat, drink and be merry (for tomorrow we die)” - incidentally, we will be providing refreshments after the service! - with the announcement of the angel to the shepherds “I bring you good news of great joy - today a Saviour has been born for you... Christ the Lord”.

Please pray for this event. Last year the church was packed out with around about 140 people, and we are hoping to repeat that this year. As many who come along will probably not be regular church goers, and maybe not have ever heard the gospel before, this is a great opportunity to reach out with the gospel to a large number of people, both francophone and anglophone.

Christmas Family Service at Condé-sur-Noireau

We will be holding our joint Christmas Family Service at le Temple, Condé, on Sunday, December 21st beginning at 10.30.

This is a bilingual joint service with the French congregation. It is hoped that more families will come along to this service and so it is a good opportunity to present the Christmas story and the gospel to those who are not familiar with or committed to it.

Please pray for this service, that those who come will discover something more of the true meaning of Christmas, and will understand in a new, living way something more of the wonder of God's love and grace in sending His Son, the Lord Jesus, into this world to be our Saviour.
