Expo-Bible 2011, Houlgate
Bible Exhibition at HoulgateThe fourth annual Bible Exhibition (Expo-Bible) opens at Houlgate Evangelical Church (l'Eglise Evangélique d'Houlgate) on Thursday, July 28th and runs through to Wednesday, August 17th. The exhibition is open to the public from noon until 7pm each day except for Sundays when it opens at 3pm. In previous years we have had six or seven hundred visitors to the exhibition.
BookstallThe exhibition panels have arrived, as have the books for the bookstall and most of the literature for free distribution. The banner is ready to be put up outside the church. The exhibition will be installed in the church on Wednesday, July 27th and on the Thursday morning ready for opening at noon. Having done it several times before, we are hoping the installation process will not take as long as during the first exhibition in 2008!
Because one helper has had to drop out this summer because of illness, we could do with an extra French-speaking volunteer between Thursday, July 28th and Saturday, August 6th. There are opportunities to help at other times during the exhibition as well. So if you would like to spend a few days serving the Lord at the Expo-Bible in Houlgate right beside beautiful sandy beaches on the coast of Normandy in France, get in touch with us right away.
We are hoping to have David and Nicki Hooke with us from August 8th to 12th to provide some quiet, meditative music over the lunch period. We hope this background music, both vocal and instrumental, will encourage people to take a few extra moments to stop and think about what they have read and seen at the exhibition and then to ask questions or take literature before heading back to the beach or other holiday activities. David is the music director of the Adoramus Choir and Orchestra, a group of Christian musicians.
Please pray for the visitors as they walk round the exhibition looking at all the information on display. Pray that something of the truth of the Bible and of the gospel will impact upon their hearts and minds and that it will cause them to think about their own spiritual state and need.
Bibles for 1.50 eurosAlso pray for the helpers and volunteers who are there to answer questions from visitors about what they have seen at the exhibition and to encourage visitors to take some of the many free resources available to help them understand the gospel, such as a copy of one of the Gospels or a tract on some aspect of the Christian faith such as how to become a Christian. There will be a bookstall too where a range of Bibles and Christian literature can be bought to help understand the Bible and the gospel. As in previous years we have a large number of Bibles that sell for just 1.50 € which is the equivalent of about £1.30 or 2$. We want to get as many Bibles or Gospels into the hands of visitors as possible, for as Psalm 119.130 says: "The entrance of your words brings light" (New King James Version). Pray that the entrance of God's Word into the minds of many hundreds of visitors this year will bring the saving light of the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ into the hearts of many.
Pray too that we will be able to follow up on more people than we have been able to in previous years. We hope to be able to encourage more people to fill in a response card so that we can keep in touch with them after they leave the exhibition.
