House Move On Thursday, June 1st Philip and Simone moved into their rented house in the town of Dives-sur-Mer. It is not a “traditional” house in any sense. In fact it is a house in two halves - unequal halves at that! The larger building contains a kitchen area and lounge/diner, a toilet and bathroom, and the first bedroom. The second, separate, building contains the second bedroom, which will become an office area for us, with its own toilet and shower room.
We are very grateful to Houlgate Evangelical Church and to their pastor, Tom Fohner, for allowing us to have rented the Church apartment for the past few months.
Summer Services in English Throughout the summer holiday period, Normandy Vision in association with Houlgate Evangelical Church will be providing a Worship Service in English for the many anglophone tourists and residents in Normandy. These will initially be held from July 9th through to September 3rd inclusive, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. The services will include both old and new Christian hymns and songs, time for prayer, reading of the Bible, and a sermon.
We are also considering a monthly service on a Sunday after the summer is over for English-speaking residents in Normandy.
Ladies Craft Club The monthly “Club de Dames” organised by Simone Loose and Mary Fohner, the wife of the pastor at Houlgate Evangelical Church, is proving to be a big hit, with up to about 12 ladies attending each month. Ages range from early teens up to seventies - with some younger children sneaking in with their mothers! In addition to the many types of handicrafts being enjoyed, the devotional session at the end of each meeting is going down well too. At last month's meeting the ladies sat around the table for an hour after the end of the handicraft part of the Club without anyone wanting to leave even though it was well past the official end of the Club. They were all eager to finish and learn from the Bible study.
The Club is a good opportunity to allow ladies from within the church at Houlgate, and from a distance beyond too, to take the lead in sharing their handicraft skills with others, and in learning to lead a devotional study too.
Autumn Events During the autumn we will be putting on the first seminars of what we hope will become a regular monthly programme of seminars, miniconferences and other types of meetings.
Events that have been booked so far include Saturday, September 23rd, when Pastor David Brown will be speaking on “The Future of the Church in France”, and Saturday, October 21st, when Dr. André Eggen and his colleagues from “Au Commencement” (In the beginning) will be speaking on Biblical Creation. Both these events will be taking place at Houlgate Evangelical Church - the Temple Protestant.
David Brown, as well as being pastor of a France Mission church, an author of Christian books and of an introductory course to Christianity “Passerelles” (Bridges), is also General Secretary of the French Students Christian Union (GBU).
Dr. André Eggen is a Christian geneticist who works as a research scientist for the French government, and who regularly speaks on the issues of the Bible, Genesis and Creation.
Normandy Vision UK Trust Normandy Vision is in the process of applying to become a fully registered UK charity. The application is being made through “Stewardship”, a UK Christian organisation that specialises in helping UK Churches and Charities with Charity formation and administration. The draft documents to be submitted to the Charity Commission are currently being reviewed by the Trustees, and it is expected that the registration process should be completed in the next few weeks.
P.S. Not Post Script - but Prayer Support. Please continue to pray for us as we look for opportunities to serve the Lord here in Normandy. Pray for the different events and situations mentioned in this newsletter, and for our continued development of French language skills. While we continue to encounter many difficulties, we are grateful that his promise that “My grace is sufficient” is still true every day.
