Normandy Vision UK Trust

A Christian Mission working in Normandy, France

Reaching the people of Normandy
with the gospel of Jesus Christ

Who are we?

Normandy location map

Normandy Vision is a Christian missionary organisation and UK charity that works in the region of Normandy in north-west France. This vast region is as big as the country of Belgium or the whole south-east of England.

It is famous for its historic links with the UK such as: William the Conqueror in 1066, the Bayeux Tapestry, the burning of Joan of Arc in 1431 and much more recently the D-Day landings during 1944 towards the end World War 2. It is also famous for its Camembert cheese, its cows, and the alcoholic drink Calvados and as a popular place for holidays.

On the other hand it is also an area which, like most of France, is very needy spiritually and yet very difficult to reach with the gospel. It is to this region that the Lord has called us to work.

Our Aims

  • Reaching the people of Normandy with the Gospel;
  • Building up Christians in their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and their understanding of the Bible;
  • Supporting, encourage and extend the work of existing churches and groups;
  • Promoting relations between individual Christians and churches in Normandy and those in other countries, particularly those in the UK;
  • Establishing in the longer term a Christian Centre in Normandy that will act as a focal point and base for our work.

Centres of Ministry

The towns where Normandy Vision has established ministries and hold events are shown on the map on the right, together with some of the main cities in the region. These centres are at Houlgate, Condé-sur-Noireau and Vire.

Our Ministry

There are four key aspects to our strategy for reaching all the people of Normandy with the gospel and for helping to build up Christian believers in their faith in and relationship with Jesus.

1. Establishing congregations for English-speaking residents

There are a great number of English-speaking Christians in Normandy who previously had no spiritual and pastoral support, nowhere to worship or receive Biblical ministry that they could understand and share in.

This aspect of our work was completely unforeseen by us but the Lord led us into it and it has been an approach that has acted as a bridge, enabling us to build links with several French churches and communities, and so opening the door for us to a much larger ministry among people of all languages and backgrounds. We have already established congregations in the towns of Houlgate, Condé-sur-Noireau and Vire.

2. Building links with French congregations

Through the work that we have done with English-speakers we have been able to build up a ministry with French churches as a means of reaching out to French-speaking residents. Each of our Anglophone congregations has links with or is in the process of establishing links with French churches.

3. Summer ministry among visitors

During the summer there are large number of anglophone visitors, including those whose second language is English rather than French, such as the Dutch. Over past years we have held weekly Sunday morning worship services in English during July and August. Currently resources only allow us to do this in one busy holiday location – Houlgate, where there is a French evangelical church right on the beach that allows us to use their premises for this ministry.

4. Bible Exhibitions

Bible Exhibition at Houlgate

For the past two summers we have organised a Bible Exhibition that allows us to reach out to non-Christians and to help Christians to understand and appreciate more the Word of God. Each August for about three weeks we hold an exhibition in a French evangelical church right on the beach in the busy holiday resort of Houlgate.

Together with the exhibition there are other associated events, such as lectures on the Bible and a Bookstall. These exhibitions have reached over 600 visitors each year, making them an effective way to reach people within the context of French culture. Many of those who visit had little or no knowledge of the Bible or of the gospel, and so we try to introduce them not only to the Bible, but also to the Saviour and Lord to whom the Bible points.

Our Needs

Raising Awareness and Support

Having completed four years of ministry in Normandy establishing the work of Normandy Vision, we now need to raise more awareness of and support for our ministry throughout the UK in order that this work can continue and develop.

Partnership

To help and support us as we seek to reach out with the gospel to the people of Normandy and to build up the faith of Christians in that part of France we are looking for churches and individual Christians who will become partners with us in prayer, in involvement and in financial support.

If you would like to find out more about becoming a partner with Normandy Vision, please ask for our leaflets that will give you more information on the various ways in which you can do this. Alternatively you can visit our web site where you will be able to find out more about becoming a Normandy Vision partner.
